North of Glasgow and the River Clyde and straddling the geological fault that seperates the Highlands from the Lowlands lies Loch Lomond,the largest fresh water lake in Britain. The village of Drymen is the gateway to the eastern shore of the Loch and is about 18 miles from Glasgow by road. As well as offering so much to the holidaymaker this beautiful area provides an ideal base for exploring the whole of the North Central area, Argyll, The Isles, The Trossachs, The "Old Capital" of Stirling & the "New capital" of Edinburgh. Both main routes to the Far North of Scotland are close to our area and take the motorist up to Fort William, Inverness and John o' Groats.

How To Get Here

By car: Excellent motorway links from England via Glasgow feed the motorist onto the A82, a main road North. Leaving the A82 at Balloch the A811 to Stirling brings the visitor to Drymen (pronounced Drimmen). Alternatively, from Edinburgh the M9 motorway takes the motorist to Stirling where the A811 provides the link to Drymen.

By coach: National coach services take the traveller to Glasgow's Buchanan Street Bus Station from which a local bus service is available to Drymen.

By rail: Rail travellers may travel to Glasgow and continue their journey by the local bus service from Buchanan Street Bus Station to Drymen or continue their journey by train to Balloch, taking a local bus from there to Drymen and Balmaha.

By air: International airlines provideflights from Europe and beyond to Glasgow, Prestwick and Edinburgh airports where the traveller may pick up a rental car to give flexibility and independence to explore this beautiful area of Scotland. Directions from Scottish Airports

Directions from Glasgow Airport to Mar Achlais:

• When leaving airport follow signs for M8 (Freeway) to GREENOCK.
• On freeway look for signs for M898 Erskine Bridge and follow.
• Keep to left lane on bridge and follow signs for A82 Crianlarich.
• At third roundabout (Rotary), take A811 road signed Stirling.
• Stay on A811 to signs for DRYMEN village.
• In village take Loch Lomond road B837 at war memorial and follow for two miles to Milton of Buchanan. Mar Achlais on right.

Directions to Glasgow Airport from Mar Achlais:

• Drive to the "T" junction in Drymen and turn right.
• At the South end of Drymen turn right on the A811
• Go over the river bridge and turn right (Still the A811)
• Follow this road to the third roundabout (Rotary) and turn left on the A82 road (About 8 miles).
• Follow signs for Erskine Bridge and Airport
• When crossing the bridge keep to the left side and still follow signs for Airport and Glasgow on to M8 motorway (Freeway).
• At first exit follow signs for Airport and keep to left at roundabout (Rotary).
• Second road left off roundabout goes to Airport and back onto motorway so ensure you keep to left lane.
• At "T" junction turn left and car rental returns and terminal building are on this road.
• Have a good flight and thanks for visiting. Haste ye back.

Directions from Prestwick Airport to Mar Achlais:

• When leaving airport follow signs for A77/M77 North towards Glasgow.
• On approaching Glasgow look for signs for Greenock, M8 and Glasgow airport..
• On M8 freeway/motorway pass Glasgow airport and look for signs for M898 Erskine Bridge and follow.
• Keep to left lane on bridge and follow signs for A82 Crianlarich.
• At third roundabout (Rotary), take A811 road signed Stirling.
• Stay on A811 to signs for DRYMEN village.
• In village take Loch Lomond road B837 at war memorial and follow for two miles to Milton of Buchanan. Mar Achlais Guest House is on right.
• This route avoids Glasgow city centre.

Directions from Edinburgh Airport to Mar Achlais:

• Exit airport and turn right for M8/M9 motorways.(Freeways)
• At big roundabout (Rotary) take M9 signed Stirling and Perth.
• Exit M9 at junction 10 signed Stirling. Head for Stirling for a very short distance and take ring road on right signed for A811 and Loch Lomond.
• Drive to Drymen and follow instructions as above.
